Here's the update I get each week with my comments below:
Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)
At my midwife appointment yesterday she gave us the green light for Ashley's arrival. She's at a healthy enough place right now considered full-term, that she's free to come any time between now and 41 weeks. After 41 weeks we'll start looking at our options for as natural as an induction as could be possible before we talk about a scheduled cesarean. Because I'm attempting a VBAC they won't induce, so it's pretty much up to Ashley! (and God, of course!) I did learn from Katelynn that an induced labor is not ideal - babies will come when they're ready and labor will progress (usually) more smoothly when the baby initiates it. Did you know that it's not a woman's body that starts labor, it's the baby!? Granted they have to work in tandem, but the baby will start to give off certain hormones to let the mom's body know it's ready and then they both start doing their individual jobs. Which I think is why Katelynn's labor/delivery went how it did. It was rushed (induced) and my body didn't have time to do what it needed to do. The midwife said I'm physically all set for labor to begin now, we're just waiting on Ashley! After learning my lesson with Katelynn, I'm fine waiting a few days/weeks. In the big picture, it's so worth it!
